A teenager was assaulted by one of a gang of seven men after she refused to engage in a sex act.

Police today launched an appeal for witnesses to the attack in Queen Street, Colchester.

Officers called for calm to prevent further violence tonight, with hundreds of revellers expected to hit the pubs from the afternoon to the early hours.

Friday night was one of the busiest of the year for bars and clubs, and the Colchester town policing team dealt with 25 incidents.

Saturday was quieter, but trouble brewed when the 17-year-old was confronted by the seven men in Queen Street.

She was making her way home with a friend when she was punched in the head by a suspect described as black with very dark skin, tall, well-built, and wearing a black bomber jacket.

Colchester town police inspector Paul Butcher urged drivers and pedestrians who were in the area at the time to contact him with any information that could be of use.

  • Anyone with information about the attack should call Colchester police on 01206 762212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Although not a good outcome, a bruse will heal and much worse could have happened. But residents of colchester shouldnt have to worry about incidents such as these, although i would prefer to resolve the root cause being pro-active rather than re-active, I think more CCTV and operators on friday/saturday nights need to be put in place around the town. This would enable police to have more eyes around town. Which may not stop the action of others but would ensure those which break the law are punished and those which are victims are seen to as soon as possible. I think this should be semi-funded by the pubs and clubs around town, and work in connection with the pub-watch system already in place with bouncers around colchester.

The idiot perpetrators of this crime should be found and made an example of in public. There is no excuse for this kind of crime. A couple of nights behind bars does nothing. Find them, shackle them together and parade them naked around the clubs they frequent with a giant **** gnome stuck between their cheeks. They'll think twice about pulling this kind of stunt in the future.
