THE parents of a baby who died suddenly in his cot are thinking of setting up a charity in his name.

Katie and Sam Jones lost their five-month-old son, Johnny, on August 5.

Katie, 27, of Beechwood Close in Colchester, had found her son blue and unresponsive.

The couple were told at Colchester General Hospital their son had died.

Sam, 22, a vehicle engineer in the army, had attempted CPR at home.

The couple is waiting to find out the cause of death, but are raising money for other parents to learn CPR.

Mrs Jones said: "Johnny should be coming home in the next two weeks and his funeral will be at the end of August.

"We still don't know what caused it but it is looking like sudden infant death syndrome.

"It's a relief that he's coming home, but being told everything about [the investigation] is difficult to process."

Katie has been sharing her story on social media, and has been overwhelmed by the amount of support from strangers.

The family is looking to set up a charity in Johnny's name, raising funds so parents can learn child CPR.

She said: "We are also thinking about starting a petition for infant CPR to be taught in antenatal classes

"We have raised nearly £3,000 and a lot of that money will go towards this, as well as to other charities.

"It has been amazing."

The family is also looking to hold a fundraising festival, and hope to start organising it at the end of the month.
