A RADIO weekend will mark the 200th birthday of Harwich's high and low lighthouses.
Both the lighthouses, which at one time worked together to help ships navigate into the harbour, are run by the Harwich Society as visitor attractions.
This weekend, to celebrate the bi-centennial, the High Lighthouse will host Harwich Amateur Radio Group.
They will broadcast and receive from the top of the 90ft lighthouse on both Saturday and Sunday as part of the International Lighthouse and Lightship Amateur Radio Weekend.
Harwich Society chairman, Colin Farnell, said: "Depending on atmospheric conditions messages will be sent and received over thousands of miles so it will be a very exciting weekend at the High Lighthouse.
"It is a fascinating building in its own right but this weekend will offer a better reason than ever to pay it a visit.”
The lighthouse will be open to the public from 9.30am to 4pm on both days with an entry fee of £1 per adult.
