Ysgol Eirias

Two student was amongst the top set of an 'A star studded' group at Ysgol Eirias A level results today.

Sara Millband secured one A* and three As to ensure a place studying medicine in Sheffield where she will also be able to contiune her successful wheelchair basketball career. 

Gokul Raj Krishna moved to Eirias from India in Year 10, taking over as head boy in 2017/18, and has also secured a spot studying medicine recording the same grades as Sara. 

Other success stories include head girl, Lauren Tansley, will be studying drama whilst Olivia Ward and Sophie Wilson will be following sports careers in skiing and equestrianism, respectively having acheived one A* and three As.

While Alex Harpum will be studying music at the Guildhall and Daisy Coombs and Nye Michael made it in to Oxbridge. 

The Ysgol Eirias 2017/18 A-level studnet's have exceeded previous results recording the best ever A/A* and A* to B grades in the school's history.

The latest A-level students have exceeded previous results exceptional results in many subject areas including chemistry, maths, fine art, history and English literature.

All of the language subjects performed extremely well: Welsh, French and German all working at high levels of A* - B.

This year saw the highest A* to B grades for economics at Eirias for a number of years with all students obtaining A* to B grades, vastly exceeding national averages.

Outstanding performances were also achieved in our Vocational courses including health, sport and ICT with all students gaining merits or above.

Oustanding results wre acheived by Dylan Mellor who achieved three A*s, A and D; Cara Davies and Kezia Holmes - two A*s and two As; Danielle Yu - two A*s and an A; and Charlotte Parker two A*s and three Bs.

Headteacher, Sarah Sutton, said: "We continue to be amazed by the outstanding achievements of our dedicated students and we celebrate this year’s unprecedented results.

Ysgol John Bright

Ysgol John Bright students will be heading to universities as far off as London and Bath after an incredibly successful A level results day. 

Studnet's Olivia Jones and Thomas Montgomery topped the list of Ysgol John Bright achievers.

Olivia achieved two A*s and two As and has secured a spot in medicine at Manchester, while Thomas recorded two A*s, two As and a B grade which will see him study International Relations at Warwick University.

Forty-two per cent of all grades at John Bright were A* or A, with 85% grades being A* to C, with a remarkable 16 students gaining at least 3 A or A* grades.  

These results saw Ysgol John Bright sixth form rated in the top 25 per cent of all UK schools. 

A Level teacher, Sally Hancox, said “It is wonderful and I am proud to see the success of our Sixth Form at Ysgol John Bright.

"It is a pleasure to see our students so excited with their results and heading to their first choice of university and starting on their next journey.”

Ann Webb, headteacher at Ysgol John Bright, said: “I am delighted that yet again our students have outdone themselves and that there are so many examples of success. 

"I am incredibly grateful to our teachers, families, students and community for the effort that they put in day in and day out in order to achieve such impressive results.

Ysgol John Bright student Megan Lyde, who received her results today, is going on to study Accountancy at Bath University.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted with my results. I got an A* an three As.  I loved my time at the Ysgol John Bright. 

"The teachers and support staff are great and really encouraged me with my Higher Education choices.

"Without this support I wouldn’t have considered applying for Bath. Now I’m so excited to be going.”

Chris Colbert, head of sixth form, said: "Our students and teachers have worked incredibly hard over the last two years to achieve these results.

"We are privileged to have such dedicated and skilled staff and are proud of the achievements of all our students, particularly those who have faced a range of challenges, yet have remained focused on their futures.

Ysgol Aberconwy

Two of Ysgol Aberconwy's leading science students have topped the school's A-level achievers as results came out today. 

Head boy Daniel Verburg will be going to Keele University to study Biochemistry while Aidan Kelly is heading to the stars and extending his physics and chemistry skills further by studying Astrophysics at Leicester University after securing the marks needed to get into their respective courses.

James Hutin, who took lead roles in school musicals and plays throughout his time at Ysgol Aberconwy, will be starting a degree in Performing Arts down in Bristol; his next step in fulfilling his lifelong ambition of becoming an actor.

Chloe Edwards Boughey, who followed a BTEC course in Media, will be taking her next career step by studying Film and TV Production at Edge Hill University from September.

Headteacher Ian Gerrard congratulated all students and staff on their results and wished them all the very best for their future.

Mr Gerrard said: “I’m delighted in the achievements of our students this year and I’m encouraged to see that such a wide and varied selection of courses are being followed by our young people across the UK.”

Other Aberconwy students have secured places in courses including social policy, product design in industry, geography, animation, events management, politics and global studies. 

They will venture off to universities across the UK from York to Winchester and Bristol to Nottingham.

Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy

Having won the 2017 ‘Can i Gymru’ a Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy student has capped off an amazing 18 months by topping the school's A-level results and earning a place at Cambridge University. 

Cadi Edwards, a successful young composer and linguist, secured an A* and three As and will now head to Cambridge University to study French and Spanish. 

Elin Cawley was another success story from Dyffryn Conwy getting two A*s and a B while also securing a Welsh Baccalaureate. She will now head to Bristol where she will study Psychology. 

Headteacher Elan Davies said studnets had once again performed exceptionally well with some outstanding results.

She said: "This year’s results show continued success in traditional advanced level courses and Vocational A levels and BTECs. 

"We congratulate all our pupils on their results and wish them all the best in their next steps and futures. 

"We are all extremely proud of our pupils’ achievements. 

"They have worked hard over the last two years to gain their results and to plan their next steps for the future.

Ysgol y Creuddyn 

Ysgol y Creuddyn has recorded its best A level results in six years. 

Creuddyn pupil Emily Johnson secured two A* and two A grades while Ilid Roberts and Rebecca Jones were awarded one A* and three A grades to top the achievers list.

Other success stories came in the form of Ellie Roberts - one A*, two As, one B and one C; Dion Asodia - three As; Dafydd Gwyn - one A*, one A, and two Bs; and Celyn Williams - one A*, one A and two Bs.

Headteacher, Trefor Jones, said: "We would like to offer our warmest congratulations to each and every one of our students.

"It’s so encouraging to see that their hard work and perseverance, as well as the tireless dedication of our staff has paid off once again, therefore maintaining the tradition of excellent A Level results at Ysgol y Creuddyn.

Coleg Llandrillo

A Coleg Llanrillo Rhos-on-Sea campus student has been named overall achiever of the year for A levels after her amazing results today. 

Abergele 18-year-old, Xixi Birkinshaw, secured three A*s in maths, graphics and art and will now be progressing on to a degree course at Coleg Llandrillo.

Xixi said: “I am thrilled with my results and can’t wait to start my degree course here at Coleg Llandrillo in the autumn.”

This summer, learners took exams in 40 A-level subjects across Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and Coleg Menai with nearly three quarters achieving grade A* to C.

The Grŵp overall pass rate of 97.6% is above the national Welsh average, and has enabled many learners to progress to leading universities, higher apprenticeships or employment.

Reflecting on the positive results, the Grŵp’s Chief Executive, Dafydd Evans, said: “This is fantastic news for our students and sets them up very well for a successful future whether in higher education or in the workplace.”

“May I take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who received their results today.

Studnets collected their results from the Coleg Llandrillo Rhos-on-Sea campus this morning

Rydal Penrhos

A place in Oxford Univeristy awaits a Rydal Penrhos boarding pupil after excelling in her A level results. 

Chinese boarding pupil Linda Wang confirmed her place at Oxford University after securing two A*’s, an A and a B. 

She was joined at the top of the achievers list by fellow sixth former Sara Owen who secured a place at King’s College, London where she will study Medicine after three A* grades, which included 585/600 in her Maths papers.

There were a host of other individual accomplishments, with Matthew Trumper gaining A* grades in mathematics, further mathematics and physics, in addition to an A in economics.

This included a combined score of 597 out of a possible 600 in his mathematics papers, and he will now move on to the University of Durham where he will study Physics.

Amy Cole-King (A*, three As), Rebecca Lawton (two A*s and an A), Elinor Davies (an A* and two As), Emily Cashell (two As and a B) and Vivia Li (two A*s, A and a B) were other pupils that attained exceptional marks. 

These scores capped off a record-breaking set of A-level results for Rydal Penrhos.

The upper sixth form pupils secured 45.1 per cent A* to A grades, which is the highest in the school’s history.

Over a quarter of all grades were A* - another record for Rydal.

About 63 per cent of grades were A* to B grades and the school also recorded a 100 per cent pass rate to round off a phenomenal year of academic excellence from the Year 13 group.

Headmaster Simon Smith praised the contribution of each Year 13 pupil during an academic year. 

He said: “Such a set of results is a great credit to the pupils embracing our "5Ls" philosophy.

"It shows that whilst we must focus on Learning, in all its guises, all the other Ls, the co-curricular, the creative and an outstanding pastoral support (including the transformative impact of boarding) can have a dramatic effect too.

"Academic performance is a culmination of many factors and influences.

“It is also a credit to our academic leaders, the pupils' teachers and Tutors; their professionalism, dedication and own commitment to professional development in researching the very best teaching practice.

“In addition to our recent site developments these results can only enhance the School's reputation as one of the top boarding schools in the North West.

"Exciting things are happening and our staff can all be very proud of their part in it.”

Ysgol Bryn Elian

An studnet's offer to study law at Cambridge University has headlined an oustanding A level results day for Ysgol Bryn Elian. 

Kieran Jones who was among those at the top of the achievers list for Bryn Elian today will be off to Cambridge University to staudy law having secured an impressive A level score. 

Other notable results came from Luke Williams, Rhiannon Lloyd Parry, Anna Higgins, Lauren Hargreaves, Rebecca Ellis, Imogen Ravenscroft and Richard Scott. 

All students gained qualifications with many of pupils gaining A*/A or equivalent in at least one subject area.

Exceptional results were also achieved in the demanding advanced skills challenge certificate.

Bryn Elian headteacher, Eithne Hughes, said the school was delighted a majority of students had achieved at such a high standard and were able to take up a place at one of their universities of choice.

She said: “Congratulations to all our students for their successes in these important examinations.

"Bryn Elian students have once again demonstrated that the school successfully provides both academic rigour alongside broader achievements, through an innovative curriculum which embraces academic, vocational and extra-curricular opportunities.

"This innovative curriculum, and its successful outcomes for our students was a feature of our recent Estyn Inspection report.
