A SUSPECTED hit-and-run crash left an 11-year-old cyclist in hospital.

His family want witnesses to come forward to find out exactly what happened before he came off his bike.

Cureton Henderson was cycling along Maldon Road, Colchester, at around 5pm on Saturday when it us understood his bike was clipped and he fell.

The youngster smashed his head and face and was taken to hospital where he is recovering.

He cannot remember what happened due to the head injury.

His sister, Sadie Wallis, 19, said: “The impact of what happened does seem like a car has hit him.

“I do not want to think the worst of people.

“It is possible someone just clipped his bike without realising.

“He could have come off his bike.

“He remembers nothing of what happened.”

Cureton had to have stitches at the hospital yesterday after banging his head on a wall after his fall.

Ms Wallis said: “I was at home when someone came to the door to tell me what had happened.

“One witness who was around at the time heard a bang and a scream.

“We have also been told he flew through the air.

“The state of his injuries do not seem like he has just come off his bike, there was an impact.

“But we are just appealing for information from anyone who might have seen anything, we do not want to point the finger.

“We really need to know what happened.”

Police are investigating.
