FIRSTSITE has been named among the top ten art galleries to visit outside of London.
The London Evening Standard listed the Colchester gallery as one of the best to visit in the country outside of the capital.
It is in esteemed company, alongside choices including Birmingham’s Ikon, which showcases some of the world’s best contemporary art.
The Standard justifies its choice by saying: “It’s worth a trip to Firstsite just to check out its glittering crescent-shaped building by Uruguayan architect Rafael Vinoly, completed in 2011.
“This summer’s major exhibition is Play it Again: the Art of Remaking, until September 9, a group show by contemporary artists whose work features remade objects, events and films.”
Firstsite has hosted a number of noted exhibitions since its opening, including Grayson Perry’s the Life of Julie Cope earlier this year.
