A complete refurbishment has taken place at a 50-bed hotel and restaurant.

Surya Hotel’s Dragonfly Hotel, located just off the A12 in Ardleigh, has undergone a complete revamp as part of a £1 million investment scheme in the operator’s premises.

A new all-day dining menu has also been launched at the premises, as well as other Dragonfly hotels in King’s Lynn, Peterborough and Bury St Edmunds.

Suki Dulai, the chief executive officer of Flying Trade Group and Surya Hotels, said: “We are delighted to have now brought the Colchester Dragonfly up to the standards of other hotels within the Surya Group and continue to make significant investment in the area.

“These four wonderfully situated hotels in East Anglia are a great addition to our already impressive line-up, offering competitively priced, quality facilities and accommodation in the heart of beautiful villages and towns.

“We are dedicated to investing and improving all our hotels, ensuring we continue to make our hotels as welcoming, stylish and comfortable as possible for our guests.”

Luxury king-size beds, high-speed complimentary Wifi and 43-inch wall mounted flat screen televisions now feature in each of the Dragonfly’s 50 bedrooms.

Contemporary designs and furnishings have been implemented throughout the communal areas, whilst the hotel’s meeting rooms have been upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities ready for business customers.

The new menu concept for the hotel’s restaurant is inspired by the British association of beer and food.

Barley and Graze was first launched at the chain’s King’s Lynn site, but has now been rolled out to all the hotels.

Mr Dulai said: “Focusing more on food trends and every day favourites, our aim is to ensure there is variety and appeal for all types of guest, with a menu that ranges from great sausage and mash to Kansas style BBQ ribs and that changes seasonally.

“We have also invested in new pizza ovens across the hotels which will enable us to make hand stretched pizzas to order with a great choice of seasonal toppings.”

Surya Hotel acquired the Dragonfly portfolio of 12 hotels in January 2016, promising to invest significantly across the board.

Earlier this year, the company received the green light to invest £10 million into the refurbishment and expansion of another of its venues, the iconic George Hotel, in High Street, Colchester.

The firm plans to convert St Nicholas House, on the opposite side of the High Street, into a 41 bedroom hotel.

It will become a second site to the established George Hotel and the firm also plans to refurbish its 47 bedrooms.

The project is expected to take two years and follows on from Flying Trade’s construction of six luxury apartments at One Castle Park.

As part of the work on the George, part of a Roman road will be exposed for public viewing in the cellar.
