A SINGING star took a trip down memory lane by visiting his old primary school.

Jacob Norton appeared before three million viewers as he battled for a semi-final place in The Voice Kids TV talent show.

He missed out to rivals on Wednesday night’s ITV show but undeterred teenager visited his former primary school to give a show stopping show to a smaller audience.

Mum Claire, 49, said: “There were over 20,000 children who applied originally.

“Jacob applied this time last year and had to go through the long process of different interviews and auditions.

“He is disappointed he didn’t manage to get any further but I think he is one of those people whereby if you get knocked down you get back up again and will try even harder.

“He is not going to stop, he is going to keep going until he is where he needs to be.”

Claire said Jacob, 14, who lives in Highwoods, Colchester, had previously been bullied about his size but the experience had boosted his confidence.

“It is just the start of things,” she added.

Jacob, who now attends the Gilberd School in Colchester previously went to nearby Highwoods Community which he visited this week.

He sang to youngsters and met former teachers.

On Wednesday's show he battled against performers, Lucy and J’ci.

The trio were being mentored by coach Danny Jones from McFly.

The semi-final will be aired tonight with the live final being shown tomorrow night.

Jacob’s family, including dad, Stephen, and his three siblings, hope to attend the live finals to support the other acts.

Jacob said: “The process has been really good. It has been a really great experience.

“It’s such a great atmosphere as well, you get to make so many new friends.

“I have made friends from Liverpool who I never thought I would meet, and a person from Russia.

“I now have people to talk to who have the same interests in music as me.”
