OLD school alumni planted poppies in memory of 18 former pupils killed in action during the First World War at a poignant reunion.

The Old Colcestrian Society, Colchester Royal Grammar School’s alumni group, heard from former pupils young and old at its annual summer reunion.

Greg Dunn, from Mersea, was elected president of the society, while two previous headmasters, Ken Jenkinson and Stewart Francis, were appointed honorary life vice presidents.

Harry Barber, an Old Colcestrian who left the school last summer, gave a talk on a recent trip to North Korea, before school captain Sol Hyde briefed the crowd on his team’s young enterprise project.

Team PRYZM has devised a booklet to help schoolchildren across the country with their mental health.

A moving ceremony was held in the school’s garden in memory of 18 former pupils who died during the First World War.

In the afternoon, the ex-pupils enjoyed lunch while watching the annual CRGS versus Old Colcestrian Society cricket match.
