A MOTHER who has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour is on a mission to raise thousands of pounds to help create memories with her young family.

Sophie George, 26, was diagnosed with glioblastoma in February, an aggressive cancer of the brain.

She was given a prognosis of 18 months to live.

However, she hopes to be able to marry her fiancé Jay Godfrey, 28, in the autumn in the presence of their family and daughter Marcie, who is 20 months old.

Sophie, who lives in Weeley Heath, said: “I started to get a really bad headache which wouldn’t go no matter what I took.

“It was a constant headache which would even wake me up in the night.

“After three weeks of pain I decided to go to A&E in Colchester and ask if I could have a scan.

“I was told I didn’t need a scan and to take some more co-codamol.

“The following day my partner’s mum took me to the optician as she said it could be caused by needing glasses.

“But the pain just became so unbearable. I was being sick and I couldn’t talk. I was in so much pain.”

Sophie was taken to Clacton Hospital where she was sent straight to A&E in Colchester again.

A scan revealed a 4.5cm tumour in Sophie’s brain.

The tumour was removed at the Queens Hospital in Romford but Sophie was told she had advance brain cancer and was given a prognosis of 18 months.

Sophie said: “Seeing everyone around me crumble to pieces was heartbreaking.

“All I could think is that I may not get to see my baby girl grow up, her first day of school or her getting married.

“It felt like my heart was breaking

“I started six weeks of radiotherapy every day and chemotherapy tablets.”

Sophie’s family and friends have rallied round and raised more than £7,000.

However, they are looking to raise a further £5,000 so she can make memories for little Marcie.

Sophie said: “I am having a scan in August to see if there has been any regrowth or progression.

“We’re looking to raise as much as we can to make memories with my little girl and to pay for any clinical trials or private treatment that may be needed.

“These can be costly and they don’t always work.”

The cash will also go towards the couple’s wedding which has been booked for September at the Warren Golf and Country Club Estate in Woodham Walter.

Sophie said: “I am really overwhelmed by all the support I have had locally and from people I’ve never met.

“I am determined to beat the odds and fight it for my family and my daughter.”
