An association which has brought residents together with their European neighbours for more than 30 years has been forced to call it a day.

Witham Twinning Association has forged a strong link between the town and Waldbröl, a similar sized town in the west of Germany, over a successful 32 year partnership.

However the Witham group has been forced to bring things to a close, because new committee members could not be found.

Before closing the group forever through, members decided to organise one final visit to Waldbröl to celebrate the decades of cooperation between the towns.

A total of 18 members of Witham Twinning Association set off on the coach journey to Germany.

The final visit understandably took on more of an informal approach, with members taking time to reminisce over previous trips and the towns’ shared histories.

The first day was spend in Waldbröl, where a traditional social evening was held bringing members and their host families together.

Trips to Siegburg and Königswinter followed, with members taking in some of the traditional German culture.

George Ellis, chairman of Witham Twinning Association, said: “While I am sad that after 32 years Witham Twinning Association is coming to an end, I am pleased that the association’s activities have provided a great deal of enjoyment for so many people over the years and have led to such fantastic and lasting friendships which I am sure will continue the association’s legacy for many years to come.”

Though the trip marked the last organised visit to Waldbröl as a group, members are already planning trips to revisit their Germany buddies.
