1. Wivenhoe Regatta, The Quay, Wivenhoe, tomorrow, from noon, high water at 3pm. Free.

As an old Wivhovian myself, it would be remiss of me not to pick out the stand-out event in the estuary town’s social calender. Expect, once again, plenty of messing about in boats as well as some serious racing as well, not to forget the riverside attractions which this year will include food and drink outlets, a Punch and Judy shows, live music courtesy of the Colchester Brass Band and plenty of surprises.

2. Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, Headgate Theatre, Chapel Street North, Colchester, until tomorrow, 7.45pm. £10, £8 concessions. 01206 366000.

Every now and again the local theatre omens align and something rather wonderful happens, and this is what’s happened in the casting of Paul Read and Joseph Sales as Jeeves and Wooster. Along with Peregrine Maturin-Baird as Seppings, this is one show not to missed.

One of the most delightful storytellers on the UK comedy circuit today, what more could you ask for as the Aussie comic’s show, this time around, has the added bonus of four stories packed into to it - all connected by the one number.
