You can get a take-away delivered to Southend beach this weekend.

The tide might be high, but the tidy up has just begun! To mark the arrival of beach deliveries, Deliveroo is launching its Beach More Amazing initiative.

Until today, beach dining has been restricted to soggy sandwiches, squashed sausage rolls and limp vegetables with dodgy dips.

However, Deliveroo is now available at nearly 100 beach and coastal locations and is today announcing a nationwide clean-up operation.

As the hot weather looks set to continue, Britain’s beaches are being blighted by litter. In a bid to encourage the public to keep the coast clean, Deliveroo will be visiting beaches across the UK throughout June.

Day trippers will be handed buckets to collect rubbish, once full they can swap the trash for Deliveroo credit and enjoy amazing free food!

Brighton beach was among the worst hit during the most recent bank holiday, up to 50 tonnes of rubbish was left by the thousands that visited. Bournemouth beach and Southend Seafront were also affected. Deliveroo will begin its nationwide tour in these three locations before visiting Edinburgh Beach and Torquay over the following weekends.

Today's announcement is the latest step in Deliveroo’s commitment to ensure that great food can be enjoyed in a sustainable manner. It follows measures announced earlier this year designed to reduce the amount of plastic packaging used when delivering takeaway meals, including immediate steps to curb plastic cutlery use.

The activity is supported by Keep Britain Tidy, the environmental charity that leads the fight for clean, plastic-free beaches. Deliveroo recently conducted an overhaul of its own in-house packaging store, with a new eco-range that adds nearly 50 new products to help restaurants choose more environmentally friendly packaging.

Joe Groves, of Deliveroo, said: “It’s a rare occasion that us Brits get to enjoy a bit of beach time. These moments are special and deserve amazing food and drink to go with them. Thankfully our riders can now bring your favourite fresh dishes direct to your towel, so you don’t miss a second in the sunshine.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s chief executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “It’s wonderful that the warm weather brings everyone outdoors. However, we estimate the cost of cleaning up is likely to be close to £1 billion a year, it also extremely damaging to our environment. This campaign is a great reminder to us all that we can do our bit to help.”
