COLCHESTER High Street will be shut to traffic tonight so work can be done on the road.
Highways bosses have been criticised for patchwork temporary repair work outside Fenwick in recent weeks.
Essex County Council's highways boss Kevin Bentley (Con) said:"Colchester High Street will be closed to traffic from midnight tonight after the last bus for crews to repair potholes and do permanent repairs where existing patching has been done, for example outside Fenwick’s store.
"We are planning work in the near future to repair vehicle damage to the pavement and other defects on West Stockwell Street, which will also involve closing the road for safety reasons.”
