A MAN has life-threatening injuries after a crash on a busy road in the early hours today.

Police have cordoned off Circular Road North in Colchester following the accident at about 4am today.

Two cars were involved in the collision.

One man aged 24 is said to have life-threatening or life-changing injuries. He was taken to Colchester General Hospital.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

He was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are on the scene now and are advising drivers to seek alternative routes.

Sgt Colin Shead described the collision as serious and warned the road was likely to be closed for most of the morning.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We are appealing for information about a collision involving two cars in Circular Road North, Colchester, at around 4am today.

"A grey Seat Ibiza and a black Ford Focus ST collided with a 24-year-old man being taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

"The driver of the other vehicle, a 26-year-old man, from Colchester, was taken to hospital for minor injuries.

"He was later arrested at around 6.45am on suspicion of driving under the influence and he remains in custody for questioning."
