A DEVASTATED family say failure to get answers about the death of a much-loved son would be “unbearable”.

The family of Andrew Cheffins has issued a fresh plea for information following his death.

Mr Cheffins, 23, who worked at TES2000 in Colchester, was killed after being struck by a white Volkswagen Up in Braintree Road near Halstead.

Essex Police say an investigation into the incident, which happened in the early hours of April 1, is ongoing and officers have yet to hear from four drivers who were in the area at the time.

With the circumstances surrounding Mr Cheffins’ death still unclear, his family have renewed an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

In a statement, they said: “As a family we are making a fresh appeal and looking for the drivers of the three cars and silver people carrier that were mentioned before by police.

“We are taking it a day at a time but are all still completely devastated by what has happened.

“There’s not a second that goes by we don’t think about Andrew and question what might of happened.

“The thought of never getting any answers is unbearable.

“If somebody has any information, no matter how small, they should contact the police immediately.”

Officers investigating Mr Cheffins’ death have identified the drivers of three cars they wish to speak to.

All three vehicles were seen driving along the A131 out of Halstead at the time of the incident.

Police are also keen to speak to the driver of a silver people carrier which was seen overtaking a Volkswagen on the same road at about 2.30am.

Both the police and the ambulance service were called after Mr Cheffins was hit but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into his death was opened at Chelmsford Coroner’s court last month where it was revealed he had died of head and chest injuries.

A full inquest will take place on August 22.

Speaking a few days after her brother’s death, Madelynn Cheffins described Andrew as “one in a million”.

She said: “Life has played one of the cruellest tricks imaginable.

“We have lost our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend in a tragic accident.

“Andrew was a beautiful, kind-hearted, gentle soul who would do anything for his family and friends.

“Andrew was truly unique, literally one in a million, with some weird, yet wonderful ways but we wouldn’t have wanted him any other way.

“Words can’t describe how much we’ll miss him.”
