A BODY believed to be that of missing man Chris May has been found in woodland three years after his disappearance.

Mr May, 28, was last seen on May 25, 2015 after leaving his home in Kelvedon.

His silver Volkswagen Golf car was found abandoned in Troys Chase, Fairstead.

The body was found in woods in nearby Faulkbourne, about two miles away from his car, on May 13 by a member of the public.

A post-mortem examination, held on May 14, was inconclusive.

Det Chief Insp Stephen Jennings said: “I strongly believe the body which has been found is Chris May.

“Inquiries are now being conducted to establish how he died.

“Chris’ family are continuing to receive support from a specialist family liaison officer who has worked with them since Chris went missing in May 2015. His body was found less than a fortnight before the third anniversary of his disappearance.”

Police said Mr May’s body was discovered outside the original search area.

Mr May left his home in St Mary’s Road, at around 9.45am on May 25 and has not been heard from since.

He sent a text to a friend in Kelvedon on the morning of his disappearance to say he was going to Braintree, but his phone was switched off from 11.50am.

His car was found abandoned two days later.

Mr Jennings added: “The priority for me now is to seek answers for his family and for the coroner to piece together his last moments.

“This is an extremely difficult time for Chris’ family who have asked to be given the space to grieve for him and come to terms with his body being found without intrusion.”

Mr May had been using drugs and was known to be dealing substances including ecstasy, cocaine and mephadrone, also known as dolly.

Police believe this involvement with drugs, and his working towards expanding his operation, is linked to his death.

Four letters were sent by anonymous authors, all claiming to know information about Mr May’s whereabouts.

However, officers have proven two of the letters to be hoaxes.

Anyone who thinks they have any information about Chris’s last movements in May 2015 is asked to contact the North Major Investigation Team on 101.
