A LUCKY youngster walked out at Wembley with his footballing hero who scored the goal which won the FA Cup.

Chelsea fan Callum Fobister, 11, won the chance to be a mascot at the annual showpiece after mum, Tracy, entered a competition with airline Emirates which sponsors the competition.

Callum, who captains his Wivenhoe Tempest youth side, was waiting in the tunnel ahead of kick off and was selected to walk out onto the hallowed turf with Blues superstar Eden Hazard.

He was then introduced to dignitaries including FA chairman Greg Clarke, FA Challenge Cup Committee chairman John Nixon and Emirates president Sir Tim Clark.

Usually, the presentation team includes Prince William but he was at Windsor instead of Wembley because of Saturday’s Royal Wedding.

Once the game started Callum joined Tracy in the crowd just in time to see Hazard slot home the winning goal from the penalty spot in the first half to secure the cup for Chelsea in a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Tracy said Callum had massively enjoyed his experience at the match.

She said: “It was probably about six weeks or two months ago and it had slipped out of my mind a little bit, but about ten days ago we got the confirmation he had been chosen.

“Ever since then he has been so excited.

“He is a big Chelsea fan and he got paired up with Hazard who is his favourite player so it worked out perfectly.

“Callum absolutely loved it. Before the game he had to do a lot of promotional work for Emirates and the FA but then he went out onto the tunnel and onto the pitch.

“We got one extra ticket so I took him and he came and met me in the crowd after about 15 minutes which meant he didn’t miss the goal.”

Callum, who lives in Wivenhoe, goes to Broomgrove Junior School and has just finished his SATs.

Tracy added: “It was a good finish to the week after his exams.”

In a bizarre coincidence, this is the second time in two years a Colchester youngster has been the mascot with the player who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final.

In last year’s final, James Pavitt, who lives in Highwoods, accompanied Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey onto the pitch before he bagged the winner as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1.
