This weekend’s Jane’s Walk looks set to be the biggest yet.
Now in its eighth year, with the town being one of the first UK locations to host the walks, the event celebrates the life and work of Jane Jacobs, an urban activist, journalist and writer.
Starting today with, among other things, a walk by tree expert Christopher Howard around Essex University’s Wivenhoe Park campus, there are more than 20 walks to enjoy led by a whole host of familiar faces including returning favourites like Dorian Kelly, this time with his Remarkables Walk looking at Colchester curios tomorrow from 11am, and Rob Brown’s Haunted Colchester jaunt, which takes place on Sunday at 8pm.
This year there are plenty of new walks to enjoy as well, one of which is three of Colchester’s most knowledgeable music fanatics, Carl Allen, Richard ‘Benny’ Benedetti and Ben Howard, leading a two-hour musical mystery tour around the town on the Monday at 2pm.
Other new walks include The Murder of John Harding and Victorian Colchester with Alex Jones on Sunday and a trail celebrating writing set in and around Colchester through the ages with Colchester crime author, Alex Clare, on Saturday.
