MULTI-million pound plans to build a business park which could create hundreds of jobs have been welcomed.

The design and layout plans for an industrial park in Horsley Cross were approved by Tendring Council’s planning committee.

Outline planning permission was agreed back in 2014 which established a principle for the industrial park, along with a 30-metre high telecommunications mast and bus depot.

Now, details for 13 industrial, two storage and distribution buildings have been agreed.

Ivan Henderson, Tendring councillor for Harwich, said he has always supported the plans as it will create hundreds of jobs in the area.

He said: “I am really pleased the plans are moving forward as it was the Labour group on Tendring Council which pushed for the development in the first place. There was a lot of objection at that time, so we are pleased it’s been put through by the council as it’s an opportunity for future employment.

“I think the issues have always been about the infrastructure and cost of utilities being provided for this site.

“But I support the park and the number one reason is it is going to create industrial jobs which are better paid jobs for people living in the area.

“The more jobs we can create, the more we will put in the area for skilled and unskilled workers the better.”

The industrial park’s site is about the size of 13 football pitches and is agricultural land.

Mistley Parish Council chairman Martin Rayner said he and the council also support the plans.

He said: “We welcome this and it would be nice to have more employment so locals don’t all have to travel to London or Colchester.”

Carlo Guglielmi, Tendring councillor for Manningtree, said: “I have always maintained it will be difficult to maintain the site because of running electricity, water and gas,

but I am supportive of any

development which could

create jobs and economic growth.”

The applicant Robert Fairly declined to comment.
