THESE new pictures show how the former Equity House building is being transformed into 67 high-end apartments.

The building was home to the brokering side of Equity Insurance Group, run in partnership with iGO4, until 2013, when between 150 and 200 people were employed in it.

The company’s lease ended in September, 2016, and all employees were moved elsewhere in Colchester.

After about 16 months’ work, Crown House Homes is now set to finish 28 one-bed apartments and 39 two-beds, with half of them already sold.

Andrew Perillo, commercial director, said: “One thing I think is important is we are focusing on people who are buying to live here - we are keeping investors at arm’s length.“We’ve seen a mix of people come forward.

“Many of the one-beds have been taken up by young couples, which we expected, but we’ve also had downsizers coming in for the two-beds.”

The first of the new owners are set to move in next month, with others set to follow.

Mr Perillo added: “Selling off plans isn’t really what we do, so what’s great is people who are buying, are buying having seen their new home - that’s what we want.”

The development has been renamed Station Square and is right next to Colchester Station.

It has two central residents’ gardens, on the upper and lower floors, while penthouses have been added as an extension at the top of the building.
