SHOP owners are offering a £1,000 reward in a bid to get a stolen £11,000 guitar returned - and to catch the “scumbag” pair responsible.

The duo arrived together at Peach Guitars, in Wyncolls Road, in Colchester and initially bought a small value item downstairs.

They then went upstairs and inspected the £11,000 guitar before the man takes the instrument from its wall-mounted holder.

He then passes the Brazilian Mccarty 594 to the woman who quickly conceals it in what appears to be a specially-made long jacket.

Gazette:

Essex Police has appealed for information on the pair while Peach Guitar bosses have also released a video offering the reward for the safe return of the prized instrument.

John Priest, who owns Peach Guitars, said: “I’m making a video I never thought I would have to make.

“This lovely guitar was stolen by these two horrible scumbag low lives.

“I want to keep the language clean but the discussions over the last few days haven’t been very nice obviously.

“We try to keep a nice relaxed atmosphere at Peach - we’re not super pushy and we don’t jump on customers when they’re in the shop.

"These two absolute scumbags have taken advantage of our really good nature and we really want to get our guitar back.”

He added: “Whoever gets the guitar back to us, there will be a £1,000 reward.

“We really want to get it back and more importantly, we really want to catch these scumbags.

“The woman has got some kind of specially made coat, which the guitar goes into and I’ve heard stories in the past of other guitar shops which have suffered the same fate as us.

“I hope you can help and let’s try and stop these scumbags from doing it again.”

Gazette:

The brazen theft took place on Tuesday, February 20 but details of theft only came to light this week.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The man took a Brazilian Mccarty 594 from the wall and removed its tag.

"The guitar, which is worth thousands of pounds, was then concealed in the woman’s long coat as they left the store."

The guitar's serial number is 238755.

It is hoped releasing as many details as possible will make the instrument too hot to handle.

Anyone with information on the theft should contact Essex Police on 101.
