HUGE animatronic dinosaurs will be the stars of a new £1 million adventure golf attraction.

The 18-hole course, complete with a flaming fort, is set to open at Playgolf Colchester golf club in Baker’s Lane, Lexden, this spring.

Known as Mighty Claws Adventure Golf, a Roman Ruckus, it will be home to 2.4 metre tall moving dinosaurs including herds of Velociraptors and a rampaging T-Rex.

The models have been specially made abroad and are due to be transported to Colchester shortly ready for the opening.

The course is based on the children’s picture book, The Mighty Claws Storm A Fortress, by Nat Luurtsema.

Creators want players to live the adventure by swinging, cutting and slicing their way to success, overcoming villainous dinosaurs and enemies throughout the course.

The dinosaur-themed golf is installed by Mighty Claws, a company which opened its first site in Bournemouth last May.

Playgolf general manager Mark Easterbrook said he was looking forward to the new attraction which he was confident would be popular.

He said: “Mighty Claws is going to be a massive attraction for everyone in Colchester and the surrounding areas purely because there is nothing like this for miles.

“We can’t wait for it to open, as we know whether you are four or 74, you are going to have so much fun.

“It is a great day out for families, friends and corporate entertaining, as afterwards everyone can head off to our family friendly restaurant the Kitchen Club, for a drink or bite to eat.”

Julie Saleh, who is the marketing manager at Playgolf Colchester, said: “Colchester is only the second site to feature our brand new concept adventure golf and here the plucky band of friendly Mighty Claws dinosaurs have to engage with herds of Velociraptors, a rampaging T-Rex, Megalosaurs and the giant battle elephants of Emperor Claudius to win the day.”

Mighty Claws Adventure Golf, founded and created by Allan Saud, is due to officially open this spring.

It will then be open seven days a week from 9am to 9pm.

Entry costs are £9.50 for adults, £6.50 for a child and £25 for a family of four.
