A MOTORIST was caught behind the wheel more than three times the legal drink drive limit after stalling during an attempted three-point-turn.

Karol Domoradzki had been drinking alcohol after an argument with his wife during which she decided to go and stay at a friend’s house with their two children.

He knew the address was in Lexden Road, Colchester, but could not remember exactly where.

In an attempt to find the right house, Domoradzki, 32, attempted to turn his Honda Civic in the road but stalled while the car was facing sideways.

Coincidentally, firefighters were driving past him at the time and suspected he had been drinking so called police.

When Domoradzki was breathalysed he gave a reading of 119mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He admitted drink driving at Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Matthew Swash, mitigating, said Domoradzki would struggled to attend his work as a boat builder in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, because of the inevitable driving ban.

He said: “He understands he faces a high level disqualification.

“He has never done anything like this before.

“The day before, he and his wife had a large argument and she took his two young children and went to stay with a friend in Lexden Road.

“He had upset as it had looked like the family had been broken up.

“He wanted to remedy that and try to fix it all. Unfortunately he couldn’t remember the exact address. He thought he had reached it but then realised he needed to turn round which is when he stalled.

“It seems there was a fire and officers were passing at the time.

“After they approached him he was fully co-operative.”

Since the incident on December 31 last year, Domoradzki, of Rectory Road, Rowhedge, has reconciled with his wife and has been treated for depression in the aftermath of his arrest.

Domoradzki was disqualified for 28 months and must complete 150 hours of unpaid work
