THIS is the moment a careless driver was caught on camera smashing into the side of a parked BMW.

The red BMW was parked in St Leonard’s Road, in Colchester, outside the owner’s home.

At about 1.45pm yesterday, a blue Vuaxhall Corsa was caught on CCTV cameras hitting the back of the red car, tilting on its side as it continued to make contact with the BMW.

The blue car can be seen causing the red BMW to crash into another parked car.

No one was injured as as result of the crash.

The red BMW has a lot of rear damage, particularly to the back door, bumper and exhaust.

The mother of the victim, who the Gazette has agreed not to name, said her son has had the car for about two years and always parks it there as it is opposite the house.

She said: “We bought the camera so we can see both cars as my son’s wing mirror was kicked off last summer.

“This is my son’s first car, he looks after it as you do, but now I believe his no claims bonus will be affected.”

The images show the driver being lifted into the air as their car collides with the back of the BMW.

The impact then forces the front of the red car into the front of another car parked next to it.

The driver’s car then makes contact with the road again as it continues running.

The driver then pauses for a moment and reverses back a few metres before driving off. The driver did not get out of the car to assess the damage.

As soon as the owner spotted what had happened, he alerted Essex Police.

Gazette:

Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the car either before or after the smash should call police on 101.
