ESSEX'S most-wanted for antisocial behaviour and disorder will have their mugshots grouped together as part of a new intelligence system called Face Watch.

Chief inspector of Essex police, Shaun Kane, announced the scheme this morning, which would allow officers, licensed premises and partners such as Pub Watch, to identify and target troublesome individuals.

Colchester's district commander said it would help identify people who have a history of antisocial behaviour and who have been previously banned from pubs and clubs.

Details of the scheme are minimal at this stage but it would work alongside Colchester Pub Watch, a group already working with venues and the police, to tackle unwanted behaviour.

The chief inspector said Face Watch is "set to be introduced in Colchester to reduce violence and disorder".

The announcement follows Mr Kane authorising a two-day dispersal order for the town centre after trouble broke out in the High Street last Saturday morning.

Until 6.30pm today, anyone suspected of causing, or appears likely to cause, a disturbance, will be asked to vacate the town centre.

Giving officers these extra powers will better protect residents, he explained, at the earliest opportunity.

He said: "There's over 100 licensed premises in that area and over the last seven months, this is the first significant public disorder incident that has occurred."

He added: "Colchester is a really well managed and safe place to go and visit and enjoy, but no-one deserves to be subject to feeling intimidated when they go out on an evening."
