A PARISH council has been given permission to expand to seven councillors.

Little Totham Parish Council wrote to Maldon District Council requesting permission to have two more councillor positions installed in their parish.

At a full meeting of Maldon District Council on Thursday, members unanimously agreed to the proposition.

Richard Siddall, chairman of Little Totham Parish Council, said: “We’re very pleased to have the support of the council, chairman and the chief executive.

"We as a council have become much more involved with our communities, and now we have considerably more activities and projects planned, we need more councillors.

“There was also the issue that our population has grown significantly in the past few decades whereas our councillor count has remained the same until now.”
