A FORMER Colchester United player has been fined and must complete unpaid work after admitting assaulting a police officer.
Anthony Wordsworth, who now plays for Southend United, is believed to have been on a night out with the team in Cardiff after their 3-0 away loss to Bristol Rovers on December 9.
A disturbance allegedly broke out at the hotel where they were staying and police were called to the scene.
Wordsworth was arrested for assaulting a police officer as well as a public order offence.
He appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court yesterday and pleaded guilty before the court.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who has played for the Blues since July 2015, was sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the officer as well as £167 in fines and costs.
Wordsworth has scored 19 goals in 79 games.
Southend United have been contacted for comment.
