A FUNDRAISING page has been set up to support a teenager’s family after he was left in a coma following a car crash.

Owen Mizielinski, 17, is on a life support machine in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge following the crash in Rowhedge on Tuesday.

Owen, a former Colchester Institute student, was passenger in a Mercedes which was in collision with a Seat Leon in Fingringhoe Road.

Fire crews cut him out of the car and he was flown to hospital in an air ambulance.

The driver of the Seat, a 22-year-old man, suffered leg injuries and was taken to Colchester General Hospital.

A family friend has set up a Just Giving page so Owen’s family can stay with him in hospital.

A total of £2,543 has been raised - the target was £2,000.

The page said: “It is going to cost his devoted family £55 a night to be able to stay in accommodation located at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

“Unfortunately on Tuesday, the roads were icy and Owen was involved in a car accident.

“He was a passenger in a vehicle on his way to work.

“He is now in a life threatening condition in a coma on a life support machine. He has a bleed on his brain.”

The page went on to say money, no matter how much, should not stand in between the family spending every moment with their son, brother and friend.

Owen’s mum, Sarah, commented on the Just Giving page, thanking everyone for their support.

She said: “I’m struggling to find the words to type, we as a family are overwhelmed by everyone’s kind words and support.

“We have been telling Owen everyone is praying for him and this page has been set up and we reached our goal in 50 minutes.

“We would like you to know it means a lot. Thank you so so so much.”

Mike Lilley, councillor responsible for public safety, said he was relaunching a campaign to get a roundabout in the road in order to slow down traffic and prevent more accidents.

He had made previous attempts to get traffic calming measures.

He wished the teenager well and hopes he makes a full recovery.
