A ROAD which was closed due to a burst water main will not be fixed until tomorrow.
East Street is closed due to a burst water main, which has now been fixed, but due to its location the road has to be resurfaced.
Emergency roadworks are taking place at the junction with Ipswich Road.
It is causing long delays on Brook Street in both directions and East Hill, High Street, and Magdalen Street heading eastbound.
It happened at about 1pm.
Motorists are also reporting long queues in Hythe Hill and Hythe Quay, calling it a 'nightmare'.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said: "As the water pipe is quite close to the centre of the road we had to close it.
"The pipe has now been repaired and we will be opening up the north lane heading out of Colchester so commuters can get out of the town.
"Both lanes will be open by tomorrow."
