A THRILLING 35 metre long ice slide has launched in Colchester.

The Demon Xtreme Sports ice slide is the first of the kind in the UK and is featuring in Colchester’s winter attraction, in Castle Park, this year.

The five-lane slope, made of real ice, promises fun and laughter for all the family, and is the brainchild of Demon Xtreme founders Jason and Anne Khan.

Each ride session, which gives participants the chance to speed down the four-lane slope with sledges and one with a rubber ring, lasts for 25 minutes.

Jason, along with wife Anne said they were delighted to see it launch.

He said: “We are really into extreme sports and ice-type sports are great for festivities, I just love snow at Christmas.

“This is the first slide of its kind in the UK.

“I thought it would be a great idea. We got together with Colchester Events Company and have been in talks since April.

“It was great to see it come to fruition.

“The response from everyone has been fantastic.

“The launch went exceptionally well, we couldn’t have asked for any better to be honest.

“We have had all ages join in, from 12 months old through to 78 years old.

“The older man was a bit unsure whether he would be able to do it to begin with but figured he would give it a go.

“By the end of the session he was running up and down there like a gazelle, it was great to see.

“That is the main thing for us - that people have an amazing time.

“We’ve had a lot of people already come back for a second or third go on the slide, and even more have asked about booking a space for later in the month.”

The DX Ice Slider is designed for people to race down the slope.

Once at the bottom, families pick up their sled and carry it back to the top of the slope.

The ride can be used as many times as families can fit in the 25 minute slot. The quicker they get up and down the slope, the more rides they will get.

Mr Khan said: “We think people of all ages should be able to let their hair down, we think it works really well.

“It will definitely not melt. The freezing plant is guaranteed to stay frozen even if we have summer temperatures or wind.

“It is thick and strong enough to carry riders safely of almost any weight.”

The slide launched on Friday and will be in the park until January 3.

It will be open from 12pm until 8pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 8pm at the weekends.

Peak tickets are £10 online or £12.50 at the gate, and off-peak tickets are £8 online and £10.50 at the gate.
