AN evening of exciting family entertainment is pending at Lion Walk's official Christmas lights switch on.

The Colchester shopping mall promises a traditional white Christmas but with a modern blend of amusements next week.

A trio of performers will grace the stage from Theatre Train performing arts, the Brinkley Grove Primary School children's choir with special guest deputy mayor Peter Chillingworth, and our own shining star, Clacton vocalist Abbie Hartley.

Peter Scopes, centre manager of Lion Walk, said: "We are all so excited for this, as it promises to be the best ever Christmas lights switch on, with a truly special, party atmosphere.

"The town has really come together for this. We're so proud to host so many singers and performers at what is really the most wonderful time of the year.

"Truly, there will be something for everyone and we are asking the whole of Colchester to come along and show their support. And for one night at least, thanks to our amazing snow machine, it really will be a white Christmas.”

But what is Christmas without a hello from Santa Claus himself? The bearded gift bearer will show off his talent for magic tricks, ably assisted by his very own juggling elf.

The mid-week celebration kicks off at 5.30pm, and will end with a glowing fireworks display after the lights are switched on at 7pm.

With special late night shopping, mulled wine and cider available for shoppers - it promises to be an unmissable event.

Join Colchester's mayor Gerard Oxford and the rest of the gang on Wednesday, November 29.
