THE money raised from an annual strawberry race has been handed over to the Children's Heart Foundation at a cheque presentation.

Tiptree jam makers Wilkin & Sons, donated £2,500 to the Witham based charity on Wednesday.

The strawberry race saw teams compete to pick as many strawberries as possible in one hour.

Anne Keatley-Clarke, the chief executive of the charity, said they were grateful Wilkin & Sons chose to donate the cash.

She said: "It is only with on-going support that we are able to continue to provide a service to those affected by congenital heart disease."

Freddie Riley, the one-year-old child of a Wilkin & Sons employee who was born with a serious heart condition, was at the presentation.

Chris Newenham, the joint managing director at the jam company, said: "This charity was chosen by staff and we are proud to have been able to support their excellent work."
