A THRILLING 35m long ice slide is featuring in Colchester’s winter attraction this year.

A couple who founded Demon Xtreme Sports are the masterminds behind the slide, which will be in Castle Park from December 1 until January 3.

The five-lane slope, made of real ice, promises to bring ‘fun and laughter for all the family’.

The ride, which is made up of four lanes with sledges and one lane with a rubber ring, lasts for 25 minutes.

Jason Khan, alongside his wife Anne, said the attraction will be truly exciting.

He said: “Were are really into extreme sports and ice-type sports are great for festivities, I just love snow at Christmas.

“This is the first slide of its kind in the UK, I thought it would be a great idea. We got together with Colchester Events Company and have been in talks since April, but it’s finally coming to fruition.

“The main thing is people have an amazing time, it’s going to be super fast.”

The DX Ice Slider is designed for people to race down the slope.

Once at the bottom, families will need to pick up their sled and carry it back to the top of the slope.

The ride can be used as many times as families can fit in the 25-minute slot. The quicker they get up and down the slope, the more rides they will get.

Mr Khan said: “We think people of all ages should be able to let their hair down, we really think it will work well.”

When asked how reliable the ice would be Mr Khan added: “It will definitely not melt, the freezing plant is guaranteed to stay frozen even if we had summer temperatures or wind.

“It is also thick and strong enough to carry riders safely of almost any weight.”

The manmade structure is being built in the third week of November. It stands five metres high.

Mr Khan said it had been an eye-opening experience working with the council, but he was pleased everything was going to be ready in time for the festive months.

As well as the ice slide, there will be music, stalls, and an opportunity to pay to visit Father Christmas in Colchester Castle.

The ride will be open from noon until 8pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 8pm at the weekends.

Peak tickets are £10 online or £12.50 at the gate, and off-peak tickets are £8 online and £10.50 at the gate.

Mr Khan said adults are being treated to children’s prices, as everyone deserves to be a big kid once in a while.
