A DRIVER has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving following a crash in Wivenhoe. 

Firefighters had to free one person trapped in the car, after it crashed into a tree in Keelars Lane.

It happened at about 8.15am this morning.

Crews from Colchester and Wivenhoe were called and worked with paramedics to free one patient from the car.

Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended and treated two patients.

The patient who was rescued by the fire service was taken to Colchester General Hospital with a pelvic and leg injury.

Another patient was treated and taken to Colchester General Hospital but there are no details on injuries. 

Both patients’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "A black Audi A4 had collided with a tree.

"Officers from Stanway Roads Policing Unit, East Anglian Air Ambulance, East of England Ambulance Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue attended the scene in order to free the passenger.

"He was taken to hospital by road with serious injuries and is in a stable condition.

"The driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and was taken to hospital with minor injuries."
