A HEARTBROKEN youngster whose brand new bike was stolen is thrilled after well-wishers rallied round to get her a new one.

Bobbie-Jean Cook’s parents bought her a bicycle after she raised a whopping £3,000 for the Brompton Fountain fund.

The London hospital treated her youngest brother, 10-month-old Sonny-Lee, who has critical congenital heart disease.

Bobbie-Jean’s family bought her an expensive bike as a reward for her hard work, but callous crooks stole it from the front garden of their home in Brooklands, Jaywick, last Thursday.

Mum Danell Dreelan had told Bobbie-Jean, aged ten, the bike was a gift from her little brother.

She said Bobbie-Jean was heartbroken when she found out it had been taken.

Danell said: “The bike was a present from us for all the hard work she’s done.”

Bobbie-Jean regularly runs her own stall at a community auction in Jaywick to fundraise for the Brompton Hospital.

When residents there found out about her stolen bike they decided to club together to get a replacement, raising £50.

“It wouldn’t have been enough to get her a new one, but was enough to replace the stolen one,” said Danell.

But the community’s generosity didn’t stop there.

Danell said: “A lady heard about what had happened to her bike and donated her a brand new pink one.

“She deserves it. She has worked so very hard that she hasn’t even had time to be a child.

“But she always says to me, ‘I’m Sonny’s sister and it’s my job to do all this’.

“We’re so proud of what she is achieving, Sonny is only ten months and she’s been there all the way through it all.

“Since Sonny’s been born she’s gone from being a little girl to a young lady.”

Brightlingsea Juniors pupil Bobbie-Jean is keeping up her charity fundraising with a fishing tournament on October 28 and a Christmas fair on November 2.
