A MULTIPLE Sclerosis charity has launched a fundraising campaign in a bid to raise money for a new medical bike for its clients.

MS-UK, which is based in Hythe Quay, Colchester, needs to raise £22,500 to be able to purchase a functional electrical system bike at its wellness centre, Josephs Court.

The bike is a key piece of equipment at the centre as it helps clients with MS and other neurological conditions improve their strength and range of movement in their legs but supporting and stimulating the users’ muscles.

The charity already has a 20-year-old functional electrical system bike but it is looking to get a modern and updated version which will be able to monitor users’ activity more accurately.

MS-UK has now launched an appeal to raise the necessary funds and clients will be doing their bit to help by taking part in a gruelling 300km group challenge in a bid to help Josephs Court come up with the money.

One of the centre’s clients, Julie Kicks, said: “I use several pieces of equipment at Josephs Court that I find beneficial, but I really like using the FES bike.

“Having the electrical stimulation while exercising really makes me feel that I’m re-connecting with my muscles and that it’s re-opening pathways from my brain to my legs.”

The Cyclothon challenge takes place on Saturday October 28, starting at 10am.

A Sixties fancy dress theme will also be running throughout the day.
