COUNCIL bosses have identified key areas of the town which need to be addressed in order to improve Colchester’s transport network.
A meeting attended by Colchester and Essex County councillors helped to establish priority projects which will now be developed further.
Among the proposals put forward were investigating what improvements to the flow of transport at North Station Roundabout can be made.
Access to Colchester Zoo will also be looked at, as will connectivity to the A133 following following improvements made to Colne Bank Avenue.
A review into two key roads in the town centre, namely Queen Street and High Street, will take place as councillors look to ease traffic congestion in preparation for new retail and leisure opportunities which are being planned.
Essex County Council deputy leader Kevin Bentley said it was vital to have a plan.
He said: “We recognise there are many competing demands for improvements on Colchester’s transport networks, but the latest meeting has produced agreement on the early projects we need to consider.
“There is a need to both develop a long-term plan whilst simultaneously keeping in step with changes that are upon us already such as new developments.”
