DRUG paraphernalia including used syringes and a medical sharps box were found amongst flytipping.

Colchester Council is set to issue fixed penalty notices to two occupants at two separate addresses after a pair of flytipping incidents were reported in the area between Harwich Road and St Andrews Gardens in Colchester.

One pile contained rubbish removed from a student let property, but the second incident was more serious and contained the drug related items.

The council's public safety boss Mike Lilley (Lab) praised zone wardens for clearing up the mess and said the council will not tolerate incidents of this nature.

He said: "This latest action demonstrates Colchester Council’s determination to deal firmly with those who fly-tip, wherever the evidence supports it.

“The council’s six zone teams do a superb job helping to monitor and maintain our neighbourhoods as clean and safe environments in which to live, work and play.

"Their work is made even more effective by the vigilance of residents alerting them to such incidents, as occurred in one of these cases.

“Fly-tipping is irresponsible and spoils the environment for everyone.

"I hope this sends a clear message the council will not tolerate this type of activity anywhere in the borough and we will investigate all incidents of fly-tipping and pursue those responsible whenever we can.”

The occupants could be set for a heavy fine and it is proved they did not take responsible measures to dispose of it.

The rubbish has been taken to the Shrub End depot for weighing, disposal and recycling.
