A new 65-bed care home for dementia patients will be opening up in Chelmsford.

Councillor Duncan Lumley Mayor of Chelmsford and Lady Mayoress Edna Lumley on September 13 officiated at the ‘Topping Out’ ceremony for Cherry Wood Grange, a new care home in the heart of Chelmsford, due to open in November this year.

It will provide residential, nursing and dementia care focused on improving wellbeing and quality of life for its residents.

The Mayor and Mayoress donned their high visibility jackets and hardhats to help plant a tree on the second floor outdoor terrace and lay the last brick to mark the final stages of the homes build.

Mr Lumley said: “I am delighted to take part in today’s ceremony having personally watched with much interest this exceptional care home being built.

"I am hugely impressed with the quality of environment and facilities that will be available at Cherry Wood Grange. I look forward to being invited back to meet the new residents who have chosen to make this their new home later this year.”

The ceremony was also attended by Cherry Wood Grange’s Home Manager, Anna Allen and Nicola Coveney, Managing Director of Carebase, the award-winning care home company who own Cherry Wood Grange.

The home will offer high standards residential, nursing and dementia care.

Facilities include a bistro, a cinema, a private dining room, a library and a hair and beauty salon.

Ground floor residents benefit from their own private gardens, the upper floors include beautiful roof terraces and there will be a large indoor garden. Luxury bedrooms will have a DVD player and a mini fridge.

Anna Allen said: “We already have a number of residents on our waiting list and we are looking forward to welcoming them to Cherry Wood Grange. Being in the centre of Chelmsford means our residents will be part of the community and able to maintain independence, local experience and connections.

“We will be able to offer all levels of care, so we can meet a range of needs from day to day support with mobility right through to those who need quality nursing care. Our show suite is open and we would be delighted to show people round and answer any questions they may have about the home and the care we will provide”.

Carebase run four other care homes in Essex and have won over 20 industry care accolades, including East of England 2016 Care Team Award and have an average rating on the carehome.co.uk of 9.5 out of 10.
