Chelmsford MP, Vicky Ford, met with representatives from insurance companies in the city to discuss their concerns over Brexit.

Insurance companies such as Aon Risk Solutions, MS Amlin, Allianz Insurance and Arthur J Gallagher were in attendance, who raised concerns over the future of current EU regulations which allows British insurance companies to sell specialised products to clients across Europe.

These regulations makes it easier to sell insurance products to airlines, ship owners, data companies and many more sectors as well as allow European insurers to write business in the UK.

They explained the need for MPs to make sure that there are clear laws governing cross border insurance claims post Brexit.

They also discussed problems with the so called "Ogden discount rate" with has pushed up the cost of car insurance.

It is estimated that over 2000 people are employed in the insurance sector in Chelmsford, in areas ranging from underwriting, reinsurance, broking, claims management and many supporting functions.

Conservative MP, Vicky Ford, said: “It was very good to meet so many Chelmsford companies.

"This means I will be able to raise their points in the debate in the EU withdrawal bill in Westminster.

"I have already met the Justice Secretary to discuss the Ogden discount rate and today he has announced that it will be reconsidered.

"This will help bring the cost of car insurance back down."
