WOULD you like some advice with those fries?

This is not a common phrase you tend to hear whilst grabbing a quick bite to eat.

However an MP is giving out McNuggets of advice to residents... from inside a fast food restaurant.

Will Quince holds regular surgeries from his office in Layer Road, where people have to make appointments to raise their concerns.

But he is now inviting residents to pop into McDonald’s for a casual chat.

He piloted the McSurgeries scheme last year, and found residents were happy to stop by to share their views in a less intimidating environment.

He said: “I have surgeries where people book in to see me, which is great, but there are also people who will have issues the would like to raise but feel it wouldn’t be worth bothering me about.

“This is me taking what I do out into the community - you get people who are just passing by and say they have something quite important to raise.”

He will still be holding his surgeries at the office in Layer Road, but wants to create more opportunities for others who may not think to plan ahead and book a meeting.

In a bid to break down the stereotype suggesting MPs work from ‘ivory towers’, he is going to new lengths by serving up advice whilst residents enjoy a Big Mac.

He said: “MPs are often criticised for being in ivory towers but it’s far from the truth.

“It’s a place where I know there will be lots of people, and it’s about making myself as available as I possibly can.”

He has also piloted the surgeries at Asda and will be testing the water at some independent traders in the town.

He said: “It’s an informal way of seeing me, it can be intimidating and I try to break that barrier by being active on social media.

“By picking these high footfall areas where I know there will be hundreds of people passing through, you just get those ‘chance people’ coming in.

Residents will need to get in touch with his office to check dates and availability.

He will be visiting McDonald’s branches at Leisure World, Colchester High Street and the branch at junction 28 of the A12.

He thanked McDonald’s staff for letting him use the restaurants to work from.

He said: “It’s really important to stress there’s no issue that is too big or too small.

“Plus, who doesn’t love a Big Mac, right?”
