THE Tour of Britain will visit the Tendring area tomorrow for stage five of the eight stage tour which began in Edinburgh on Sunday and will continue until it reaches the finish line in Cardiff on September 10.

If you’re going along to Clacton to see some of the best male cyclists in the world, you’re going to need to know when the action starts, if any roads are closed and where you can watch the highlights once you get home.

The first thing to make clear is that you will have to pay absolutely nothing to be able to watch this world class sporting event. All you have to do is show-up, pick your spot and watch the riders sprint past.

On top of the free entry, there will be a promotional village near the starting point of the stage, in Marine Parade West, where the sponsors and partners of the tour will be on hand to give out freebies and tell you all about their competitions.

At 12.01pm, it will time to go racing and the riders will begin to head out on their individual time trials across the ten-mile course.

They will set off from Marine Parade West and head north before turning left into Kings Avenue, at Holland-on-Sea.

From here they will head towards Sladbury’s Lane which they will follow until they reach Great Holland.

Here they will turn right onto the B1032 and follow the road until they reach Frinton Road and emerge back onto the seafront at Kings Parade.

When they turn onto Kings Parade it’s a three mile ride along the seafront to the finish line.

The final rider is expected to complete the course at roughly 2.30pm.

Once the last rider is over the line, all eyes will turn to the podium celebrations. This is planned to take place at 2.45pm near the start/finish point.

After that, all of the teams and riders will head off to the next stage which will begin in Newmarket tomorrow.

With the course being very flat, you will struggle to find a vantage point from where you can see the riders for a long period of time. This won’t spoil your fun though because the event in Tendring is a time trial.

This means that unlike the other stages where most of the riders pass by at once in what is known as the ‘peloton’, the riders will pass by individually as they race against the clock instead of their rivals. This means that several riders will be passing by your spot every minute so spectators won’t be left staring at nothing for long.

Watching the riders turn left into Kings Avenue from Kings Parade as they head into Holland-on-Sea, with the seafront in the background, could be the perfect place to watch.

Once you get home, there will be an hour long highlights show of the day on ITV4 at 8pm. ITV4 will also be showing full live coverage of the stage from 11.45am while Eurosport will also be showing the race too.

Some roads close to Clacton seafront will close at 5am tomorrow and they will stay shut until roughly 6pm. However the majority will close at 9.30am and will re-open at 2.30pm, meaning disruption should be kept to a minimum.

Those roads which will be closed from roughly 5am until 6pm are: the Hastings Avenue junction with West Road to Selsey Avenue and the West Road junction with Wash Lane and Marine Parade West to Coan Road.

The Marine Parade West junction, Wash Lane to Tower Road and the Wash Lane junction of West Road and Marine Parade West to St Vincent Road are also predicted to be shut from 5am until 6pm so organisers are able to set-up in the morning and pack-up in the evening.
