A MAN held up a corner shop immediately after being released from prison, a court has heard.
Jordan Lands, 21, was charged with robbery after £260 was stolen from Golden News, in Maldon Road, Colchester on Wednesday.
The raid is said to have taken place at about 2.50pm after a man walked in carrying a broken bottle and demanded cash from the till.
The court heard during the incident, the man warned the shopkeeper: “I will break your face, do not try and call anyone, just get the money.”
The encounter was captured on the shop’s CCTV cameras.
Staff are said to have handed over £260 to the man, who then fled the scene.
The court heard there were a number of customers in the store at the time of the robbery who witnessed the incident.
Lands, of no fixed address, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning.
Magistrates heard drug user Lands had been released from prison immediately before the incident and had handed himself in to the police after the robbery.
Magistrates did not ask Lands to enter a plea but Annie Fraser, defending, told the court he planned to admit the offence at a plea and case management hearing next month.
Lands, who has been remanded into custody, will next appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on September 15.
