A DAUGHTER is going to new heights to fundraise for the hospital staff who are looking after her mum.

Jane Rivett will jump out of a plane with her colleagues to raise funds for Colchester General Hospital’s Cancer Centre Campaign.

Mrs Rivett’s mum, Sylvia Ponsonby, 78, has ovarian cancer which has spread to her chest.

She underwent chemotherapy at the Mary Barron Suite at Colchester General Hospital and now her daughter Jane, of Old Heath Road, Colchester, is raising funds to say thank you.

The skydive, which she will complete on October 1 with about 20 of her colleagues from IT Fleet Automotive, will raise for the Gazette-backed campaign for a new cancer centre.

Mrs Rivett said: “Mum has had two cycles of chemo at the Mary Barron Suite and has finished her last cycle.

“It’s just an amazing cause and they are such a good group of people.

“She had six rounds of chemotherapy and the tumours got smaller but about six months ago she started having symptoms again and it was discovered it had grown again.

“At the moment she seems to be responding well.”

The campaign is trying to raise £3.25 million to build a state of the art cancer centre at the hospital.

The development will see a new chemotherapy and haematology unit next to the radiotherapy unit.

There will also be support services at the same site.

The team has already raised £640 but hopes to raise more. To donate visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jane-rivett.
