A MOTHER has been accused of flytipping after her daughter’s bible was discovered in a pile of rubbish.

Jackie Pegram, of Veronica Walk, Colchester, denied claims she dumped the rubbish on a greensward near to her home.

During a hearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court, Victoria Jepsom, prosecuting on behalf of Colchester Council, said a pile of litter had been found by officers on a grassy area.

She said: “An office found books, book cases, bits of wood and other things.

“There were two books belonging to the defendant’s daughter leading officers to believe they were hers.”

Raph Piggott, defending Pegram, said the books had been left there by her daughter and the rubbish must have been left there by other people.

He said: “The place where the rubbish was left is where people put their black bags out on collection day.

“Two books with the name of her daughter written in were found there - a bible and a school book.

“But the children play in that area and they must have left the books there.

“The rubbish which was left there was not hers.

“She recently had a number of items from her garden cleared out by contractors at not inconsiderable cost to her, so why would she leave them there after paying for the service?”

“She admits she has been spoken to my street wardens in the past but it was over the issue of putting black bags out for collection the night before.”

Peagram, 36, will now stand trial at the court on September 28 charged with depositing waste on land without an environmental permit.
