This morning was the moment students across the country have been waiting for since they left school: the day they find out their A-level results and whether they got into the university of their choice.

In Chelmsford and Brentwood, achievements were high with many colleges exceeding last year's results.

New Hall School, Chelmsford

New School Hall had a successful year, with 44 per cent of grades at A*-A, 76 per cent of grades at A*-B and 91 per cent of grades at A*-C.

Principal, Katherine Jeffrey, said: “Once again we have seen strong results across the board at New Hall, including a remarkable 100% achieved in 45 A Level modules.

"The average point score per student equates to A, A, B at A Level, which has enabled the vast majority of our students to secure their university place of choice.  We are incredibly proud of our students’ successes and it is wonderful to see their excitement today after all their hard work.

"Given the exceptional competition for Oxbridge places for 2017, at New Hall we are delighted to be celebrating record places confirmed at Oxford and Cambridge, for an impressive range of subjects: Law, Biological Sciences, Music, History, Spanish and Theology & Religion.

"These fantastic results and New Hall’s success as the TES Independent School of the Year show the strengths of Catholic independent education and reflect the quality and breadth of the curriculum at New Hall.”

Brentwood School

Brentwood School celebrated a big increase in their A-Level grades this year, with 44 per cent of students receiving A*-A grades and more than three quarters of students obtaining places in their first-choice universities.

But one outstanding student was Andrew Ejimai, who has obtained a place at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, aged only 16 – so two years early.

He said: “I thank God and my teachers who have helped me. I started Maths at an early age and just wanted to keep doing it. The hard work has paid off.”

Academic Deputy Head Jeremy Quartermain commented: “All of our talented students should be very proud of these terrific results. I’m particularly pleased that our A*-A grade average has increased so significantly. To be able to say that almost half of all A level (or IB equivalent) grades achieved by our students resulted in an A* or A grade is a fantastic achievement, and testament not only to their hard work but also to the tireless commitment put in by our wonderful teachers.”

Great Baddow School, Chelmsford.

Great Baddow School in Chelmsford had a brilliant result with a 99 per cent pass rate (only one course out of 26 did not get full pass rate) and almost half the grades being A*-B.

Head teacher, Carrie Lynch, said: "I am delighted for the students and their parents, particularly given that several subjects had new syllabuses for this year and some subjects were ‘decoupled’ from AS so students were being examined on the full course after two years rather than having completed certain modules in Year 12."

“Despite all the national concerns about the new and more rigorous A-Levels, Sandon students have pulled out all the stops to achieve some fantastic results.

“It is a real team effort between students, teachers, support staff, and parents.

“We are delighted and wish our students every success in their future education and chosen careers.”
