TWO people arrested in connection with a "large disturbance" in which a female police officer was slashed in the face with garden shears have been released under investigation.

They were arrested after officers were called to the incident in Jackson Road, Clacton, at 9.10pm on Tuesday.

Two female officers who attempted to intervene were assaulted.

A spokesman said: "One officer suffered a minor leg injury. However her colleague suffered a serious facial injury after she was slashed with garden shears.

"The officer was taken to hospital and is now recovering at home.

"Detectives are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward."

Both the 23-year-old woman - who was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assaulting a police officer - and the 21-year-old man - who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon - have been released under investigation.
