A SPURNED husband who was jailed after engaging police in a three hour stand-off armed with knives was previously described by popular TV host Jeremy Kyle as “his favourite guest ever.”

Alan Kent, 38, admitted assaulting his wife, Louise, and a police officer following the incident in Titania Close, Greenstead, Colchester.

Witnesses watched on as he hung out of his window brandishing knives, threatening to kill himself and shouting about his wife cheating on him.

Officers spent a number of hours negotiating with the troubled man who reportedly had two children inside the house.

The stand-off took place a matter of months after Kent’s appearance on TV’s Jeremy Kyle Show, which focused on his suspicions his wife had a three-month affair behind his back.

On the show Kent was described as a church-going Mormon and hailed by the host as “his favourite guest ever”, due to his smart three-piece suit, albeit accompanied with trainers, and laid back attitude.

Jeremy Kyle also called Kent “barking mad” and said “I love you.”

The show, which aired in February, featured Kent voicing fears his wife was being unfaithful a year after the pair got married.

Although Louise failed every lie detector test, the couple said they were going to work hard for the sake of their relationship and family.

Witnesses to the incident in Greenstead described the scene as a “hostage situation.”

Neighbour Vickie Martin said: “This is the same couple who were on Jeremy Kyle a few months ago.

“He had an argument with her earlier in the day and was going on about how she cheated on him.

“She had left the house and he was kicking off, shouting out of his windows, saying he had taken tablets and calling his wife every name you can think of.

“Police were asking him to let his kids out.”

Following the stand-off and arrest, Kent was charged with assaulting his wife and a police constable, and obstructing a police constable.

He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court where he admitted the charges.

He was jailed for 16 weeks, fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 in costs.

Compensation of £100 was awarded to PC Scott, £100 was granted to Louise Kent and a restraining order was imposed for 12 months.

Kent was also handed a 30 day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement to help him address his behaviour.
