A GROUP of teenagers have made care packages to support people living on the streets.

As part of the National Citizen Service (NCS) project, a group of 15 and 16-year-olds in Colchester have been working to make a difference in their communities.

And as part of the scheme, a total of 11 youngsters from Colchester organised a social action project to help the homeless.

They raised £200 through a Just Giving page and £300 through various fundraising events.

With the £300 they set up a food bank at the Holy Trinity Church in Trinity Square, Colchester, providing food and toiletries to the homeless.

The money from the fundraising page went directly to homeless charities.

Melisha Brown, who was the team leader for the initiative, said: “The team wanted to set up a social action project focussed on the homeless community and find the best way to reach out to them.

“It’s definitely a worthwhile experience for them.”

The National Citizen Service project is a four-week event which gives young people a chance to learn life skills and give them the chance to help local communities in a variety of ways.
